Fave Raves For Spring
Jeff Gibson Ball Seed Landscape Business Manager

On January 1st of every year, Ball's customer service department's call volume instantly DOUBLES! Everybody is past the holidays. Growers have cleared their benches of poinsettias. Now it's time to fill the benches back up with early-spring color for most markets. (Florida, you're enjoying the height of color season by now!)

I am super-excited for so many of the 2017 new year plant introductions. Here are a few raves on some of my faves for early-spring color ...

Giselle Phlox
A ground cover-like spreading Phlox that works great in cool temps but will persist in heat as well. Can you say "yo-yo" spring weather? (hot/cold/hot/cold…)

Snowsation Iberis
You know Iberis to be the BEST early spring WHITE bloomer around. Snowsation is all that and well-mannered. It stays compact and mounded, not stretchy. Use this as a filler in a container with spring pansy or viola and bulbs.

Lobularia passionaria
While we are on the topic of spreading early-spring color, purple, white and pink “passionaria” is now "best in class" for the Lobularias. Think "alyssum on steroids!" Awesome!
